About Dr. Speckart
- Dr. Speckart is the only jury consultant with over 40 years of experience and with internationally-recognized research on the prediction of behavior.
- He has worked on over 1,500 cases and 200 jury selections in 48 states and Europe.
- He obtained his Ph D in psychological measurement at UCLA, where he collaborated with Dr. Albert Mehrabian, whose seminal book Nonverbal Communication established the foundation for the most comprehensive approach to witness training used in litigation today.
- His career began with several mass torts, including welding fumes, asbestos, and IUD litigation.
- He carried out research and conducted jury selection in the Agent Orange case, the largest settlement in history at the time.
- He was similarly involved in the Exxon Valdez cases (state and federal), in which his research predicted a punitive damages award of $5.2 billion (actual $5.0 billion).
- Jury selection in the Exxon Valdez cases led him to author a National Law Journal article in which he coined the term “stealth juror.”
- He then turned his attention to suppressing nuclear verdicts in the notorious East Texas patent litigation, where, over two decades, he “cracked the code” on juror profiles resulting in average damage awards in thirteen cases of only $1.4 million.
- His work in East Texas was cited by name in a 2008 Law.com article entitled “Taming Texas.”
- Today, he is the “jury consultant’s jury consultant,” as practitioners in the field come to him regularly for advice.
